Thatch BUDDY
Pretoria
Gauteng
Website
We specialise in thatched roofs from a relative small Lapa of about 20m2 to massive thatch roofs of more than 1000m2. We also spesialize in the building of Timber Framed Houses, Timber Decking and Wendys The inside finish is done with Cape Reed. Other finishes are also accomodated on special request. The outer layer is done with Yellow Highveld thatching grass, also known as Hyparrhenia Hirta or Phillependula. The quality of the grass is a very important aspect as a thin stem of about 2 to 3 mm is required to ensure a well comacted roof that will eventually increase the life expectancy of the roof. All grass are winter cut when it is slowly dried before being cut, to prevent cracks in the stem which may occur if cut whilst green during the summer. This also improves the water resistance of thatch. Our standard thatch is about 175mm thick unless stated otherwise. All our struxtures are erected with SABS approved CCA treated poles and bolted together in areas as required by SANS 10407 specifications
